I don't have to Convince People.

Remember that last year I wrote about people often judge by cover, also about people who do spiritual works? Many people did not believe I do reading just because I never use any spiritual icon as accessories or dress up very casual.

Several days ago, I met a healer from Europe who has been spending the time in Ubud for about a month for holiday. He said he just recently had his beard trimmed in Ubud. But after that, every time he said that he is a healer; people were a bit surprised to hear it.

“Ooooh really? Are you a healer? That is why they said…. !” this guy described how people response to him. He was surprised that in Bali appearance plays a role to make people believe whether we are spiritual workers or not.

I can’t stop laughing when he shared it to me as I can put myself on his shoes. In the fact, in the morning same day we met, I had reading session for a young girl who also surprised when she met me in person. She came with her friend from South of Bali, about one hour drive to Ubud. Her friend found the info about my session trough internet and made the appointment for her. So they both were totally had no idea how I look alike.

When I say “hi” to them, they both looked so relieved and say “hi” back with big smile. I knew they must be worry that I would be looked alike a very old women who wearing black dress, many crystal necklaces, feather earrings and use crystal ball. And that was they finally told me.

The girl did a lot of browsing and compare which one that not looked too airy-fairy as they assumed that most of readers looked alike it, especially Ubud is well known as spiritual area in Bali. The girl who asked for reading even very nervous and kept repeating asking the other girl whether I would keep my promise to see her for the session. Oh maybe she thought I can disappear to other planet and wont back to this earth soon.

“I just not really comfortable with someone who dress up or using spiritual accessories too much”, said one of those girls. "But I also surrender if you would not be like what we expected".

I smiled. “I can understand, but just never judge people by cover.” I remind them. I am glad that she was happy with my session.

After I finished reading session on that day, I had order my early supper and iced coffee. The barista who served the coffee gave me a surprise question.

“I was wondering why I never see you do blessing to your meals like other spiritual or healers who came here…”

“Do you mean blessing by move my hand around food?” I repeat the question to make sure I understand what he meant.

“Yes, that is what I mean. Blessing by move your hand like what I saw from other spiritual who came to Bali…”, the barista nodded.

I looked at him and smile, “I have my own way how to bless my meals. I do not have to do the same thing as the others did just to convince people that I am doing kind of spiritual work”.

He was laughing, “I knew. I just was teasing you.”

Well, I want to make confession that I actually have feather earrings which I never wear. I bought it long time ago, about seven years ago. Maybe I should wear it someday soon when I am still in Bali, just to see how people response to me when they see me wearing that feather earrings.
