This is my new fur friend, Heli. He is a Bali dog about 7 years old ( for human age, he is approximately 65 - 75 years old) which belong to a Australian couple who chosen as Jero Mangku, a spiritual position in Hindu Bali culture. They live in Gianyar.
I fell in love with Heli since the first time I met him. Helly came to me and sniff slowly as an “introduction” greeting and he straightly guided and walked with me headed to meditation center. We passed through small path in between rice field. Sometime we ran a bit. Her tail keep moving. He was happy.
On that day, when I and other attendees almost finished the meditation session, I can heard his steps entered the meditation room. But I was not sure it was Heli as I doubt the the Jero Mangku will let her came in. But when Jero Mangku gave a sign that the meditation session was over, I opened my eyes and Heli was sat in front of me and my friend next to me. Jero Mangku let him there. Sometime she poked me and my friend, asked us to stroke her head.
Yesterday, I met Heli again. My friend who often visited the meditation center dropped me off there as she had to go to other meeting. Heli suddenly was pretending slept in the middle of the road in order my friend with her motorbike could not move. Heli did not want to let my friend go. Once my friend left, Heli again lead me came inside the meditation center area and accompanied me reading a book when I was waiting the session with Jero Mangku begin.
When I moved to meditation room he was also following us but she choose stayed outside. He entered the room when we almost finished the session then poked me to remind me that she was there to have my attention. Once I stroked his head, he sat next to me and slept again. He wake up when I said good bye and he was ready to lead me to front gate. He is so lovely, is not he?
When I stroked his head, I can notice something on his head. Not like I felt when I touched his head before.
“The farmer used to hit him a lot,” said Jero Mangku with a bit sad face.
“Why did they do it to him?” I complained. “He is very well manner dog”.
“Because they just want to do it, they did not like him. Maybe sometime Heli also barked to them and they were not happy for it. Once they knew it’s ( Heli) belong to Jero Mangku here, then they stopped do it”, Jero Mangku explained.
I took a deep breath, so sad to hear it. There are several wounded on Heli’s body because he sometime had fighting with other dogs there. I cannot imagine that he had that rough time with the farmers around there too. He is the most polite and nice Bali dog that I ever met.
“Rini, a dog or Heli, can detect or scan your feeling. They can notice the compassion in your heard,” said Jero Mangku. “When Heli notice that someone has bad energy or emotion, he will make this face… ( Jero mangku made angry & growl face). But when a dog felt that you have a good intention, they will show you a respect too.”
I was speechless. I learned so many wisdom from Jero Mangku especially about compassion, and Heli also complete it by taught me about forgiving.
Sometimes, when we get angry about someone or something, we take it out on others. We are often looking for other as object to blame or angry with. We also holding that anger for long time. But had bad experiences with those farmers did not make Heli treated me bad. He accepted me as he knew that I will not hurt him. Even when we were passing through the path to meditation center, he also did not show any bad attitude to the farmers that we met along the way. He was FOCUS showing the road for me.
Often, we did not appreciate other people kindness to us either. We ignored it as we considering they were only small or simple things. We forgot to say thank you or to appreciate the effort which made for us. We rarely remember that some people were there for us when we had hard time. We dont care that maybe they have a hard moment too. I did not give any to Heli but showed him that I will not hurt him. He replied back with his “guidance” and companion. I ll be back there and bring something for him for sure smile emoticon
We did not realize that life is about take and give. Heli poked me asking for a gentle caress as a sign that he was welcome for the compassion from me. He asked it because he trust me. It made me knowing that he feel comfortable with me. Did you express your feeling to your loved one? Did you let them know that you love and care about them? Did you let other people give their love to you too? When you close the door of your heart, you not only will have difficulty to give your love or compassion, but also about receive it from other.
Next time, i will take a pic of us, Heli and me!
